Hiking in Istria
Fantastic hikes in Istria / Kompanj
The lonely bear forests, the omnipresent limestone, the plateau above Kompanj (Čičarija) make hiking in Istria a real highlight. Many hikes start on the doorstep of the Mountain Lodge Istria and offer unique views, especially in the late hours of the day.
A detour over the rocks of Kompanj is also worthwhile after a day of climbing. It is particularly rewarding in autumn, when the leaves turn into beautiful colors.

Hiking in Istria / Kompanj
The lonely bear forests, the ubiquitous limestone, the plateau above Kompanj (Čičarija) near Nugla, Hum as the world's smallest town, the popular coastal town of Lovran and fjord-like landscapes on the Limski Canal make hiking in Istria a real highlight. On winding and well-marked paths, hikers can convince themselves of the versatility of the peninsula belonging to Croatia and experience the Mediterranean flair up close.
Our favorite peak is Vojak (Učka National Park). It is the highest mountain in Istria and is rewarded with a unique panoramic view over Istria and the Mediterranean Sea. But also short hikes through Vela Draga are highly recommended.
7 waterfalls
On this hiking trail you are passing the 7 waterfalls. It starts and ends in Buzet and leads from Selca to Glistonija via Kuhari to Kotli. Beginners and more advanced hikers will enjoy this beautiful part of Istria.
The path of the seven waterfalls will show you the mystical beauty of Istria in all seasons: in summer the green and the rich vegetation take your breath away, in autumn the rain fills the river and creates a mighty roar of water that breaks over the rocks, in winter when the frozen water droplets form unusual views or in spring, which with the first rays of the sun beckons the messengers of spring. The path is 13.5 km long and 5 hours are sufficient for the tour.
Korita - a hidden gem in Istria’s highlands
Žbevnica Hike: Great views in Istria’s Rugged Landscape
Nestled in the northwestern corner of Croatia, near the Slovenian border, the Žbevnica Hike is a true hidden gem for nature lovers, hikers, and adventure seekers. Standing proudly at 1,014 meters, Žbevnica is the westernmost peak of Croatia’s Ćićarija mountain range, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of Istria’s rolling hills, the Adriatic Sea, and even the distant Julian Alps on clear days.
From Krulčići above the walls of Kompanj to Kurkuz
A nice loop with fantastic views over Istria to the sea.
The short and easy hike starts in front of Mountain Lodge Istria´s door and takes you (at the Red Villa to the left into the forest, then always keeping to the right) over the walls of Kompanj. Here you can experience the most beautiful sunsets in Istria. There you keep to the left at the top of the rocks on a small path until you reach the small village of Kurkuz. From there it goes down the small street. The first forest road on the left leads you back to the starting point. If you start late because of the sunset, please don't forget a headlamp. Time about 1-2 hours
